The DIRM Factor
Beccie is the Head of Service at Rushall’s Inclusion Advisory Team – a unique service which supports schools to ensure that their pupils with special educational needs exceed their potential across four different local authorities: Walsall, Birmingham, North Warwickshire and Staffordshire. She has over 14 years of experience of teaching children and young people with special educational needs and is a qualified specialist dyslexia teacher having gained a Post Graduate Certificate in Specific Learning Difficulties – dyslexia, AMBDA and Masters degree in Equality and Diversity in Education.
DIRM stands for ‘does it really matter?’ and it is fast becoming my mantra of choice for many of the issues that I am encountering in our schools! I have the pleasure and privilege of getting to know the many children and young people referred to our service. Often, the conversation starts something like this: “I have this child who no one knows what to do about.” This then leads to: “We’ve exhausted everything we’ve got to offer and were hoping you and your magic wand could come and have a look..."
Beccie is one of the presenters at the SpLD Central conference "Dyslexia, Literacy and Achievement" on June 20th, with Neil Mackay. (Bookings can be taken until 1.00 pm on 19th June).
