We have developed a tool for tracking progress in life and social skills, which has helped us focus on those skills needed by pupils in an SLD/PMLD, especially when they leave school. As a result we have seen pupils able to do more for themselves

Lonsdale School is a special school which has developed a new, holistic approach to assessment. 'New Horizons' is a person-centred assessment framework which includes academic, social and personal development; it has been well-received by staff, pupils and parents and has been praised by Ofsted.
A research project conducted by a literacy leader in KS3, to investigate what impact interventions based on reading for pleasure (STAR and Accelerated Reader) have on the self-perception and reading ability of students. Results indicate some positive outcomes.
