Excellent Practice in Further Education
Heart of Worcestershire College has an ambitious drive towards ensuring provision for learners with disabilities takes centre stage in its development of learning opportunities. This has resulted in excellent outcomes for learners resulting in meaningful impact for their lives and work. This focus has been at a time of enormous pressures on funding, economic downturn in local employment markets and legislation changes. Despite these pressures the College has completely re-designed and refocused the curriculum offer to support the preparation for adulthood themes and more recently invested over £600,000 in developing at two separate campuses some specialist sensory and independence resources. Inclusion is a key value for the college and it is with this in mind that both specialist areas are located within the heart of the college campus with a rich relationship enabled between learners with SEN and those without, learning and socialising alongside each other as equal peers.
