We use the AET standards in school and work in a tiered system. Everyone (including lunchtime supervisors) are level 1 autism trained. A lead teaching assistant is level 2 trained and she is our autism lead and I, as inclusion leader am level 3 trained (strategic lead). The Autism Lead is given time to support groups for social skills, to develop resources (including for transition), give practical advice to teachers and teaching assistants, but she also works primarily on a 1:1 basis; supporting 2 different, significantly autistic children (she shares the role with other TAs in order to develop their practice).
Outcomes: engagement of specific children has increased, anxiety levels have decreased and transitions have improved.
