Crossbow Education design, produce and supply resources for supporting dyslexia and visual stress, specialising in multisensory resources for literacy, coloured overlays and reading rulers, and tinted exercise books. Crossbow also organise and host SpLD Central, the Midlands conference and exhibition for SENCOs and teachers of students with Specific Learning Difficulties. Crossbow are twice winners and three times finalists for the BESA Educational Supplier of the Year award, and winners in 2014 of the SEN Product of the Year award with their Visual Stress Collection.
Crossbow was founded in 1993 by SEN teacher Bob Hext, with three card games taken to the second ever Special Needs London show (where they have exhibited ever since). The company now has over 600 SKUs in their product inventory, employs 14 staff, and has a subsidiary in the USA. Crossbow features regularly in the BESA national awards because of their commitment to quality, sustainability and excellence of customer support. Crossbow flagship products are the Eye Level Reading Ruler and coloured page overlays, now available through many catalogue suppliers and online resellers, and the Visual Stress Assessment Pack. As well as producing their own resources, Crossbow include "the best of the rest" in their catalogue and online store, with a selection of materials from Smart Kids, Learning Resources, Phonic Books and others suppliers of dyslexia-friendly teaching resources.
